Topic: Mindfulness for our Occupations: A Tool for Living Life to the Fullest

Presenter: Andrea Ball, OTR/L

About this course: Andrea Ball will describe how mindfulness fits into our role as a health care practitioner and also how to use mindfulness in our daily occupations. Andrea will present her own experience and continued training to give examples with visual supports.

Course Objectives:

  1. The What, Who, When, Where, and Why  to practicing mindfulness
  2. What is Interoception and how does it fit into mindfulness
  3. Managing Emotional Regulation for ourselves and our patients

About the Presenter: Andera Ball, OTR/L, has 14+ years experience. As a new grad, began working in home health traveling to nursing homes and developed early job burnout in just 4 months. A few months later, hired to my FW clinical site- Metro Public Schools from 2006-2013 and also worked early intervention after school in homes. In 2011, I founded Play Ball Children’s Therapy out of the desire to help children in our county receive in-home early intervention. Our business grew to where we began renting space a few years later and in 2015 we opened our official clinic.

Volunteer:

  • Vanderbilt Sleep Educator for Children with Insomnia and Autism Spectrum Disorders: Partnering with Community Practices Ages 2-12 , 2/2016- 12/2018 research 

  • La Leche League Leader (nonprofit breastfeeding support) since 2014 for our county

  • Applied for the AOTA BCMH 5/2018 and denied 11/2018. Grateful that I set a goal and learned from the experience

  • Participated in the first large scale research project as one of 17 sites from around the world, examining the effects of The Interoception Curriculum (Mahler-2019).

  • Initiated & co-led her sons’ school’s first Mindful Brain Warriors club (2018-19).

  • TNOTA Pediatric CoP Co-Facilitator March 2019- Nov 2019
