2024 TNOTA Philanthropy Partner: Parkinson’s Foundation (Tennessee Chapter)

TNOTA is excited to announce our organization’s philanthropic partner for 2024 based on nomination and voting of our members: Parkinson’s Foundation (Tennessee Chapter). This organization was the first private Foundation in the U.S. created to advance research into the cause of and cure for Parkinson's disease (PD), while assisting those living with PD.

In 2016, the National Parkinson Foundation merged with the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation to form the Parkinson’s Foundation. Today, with offices in New York City and Miami and Chapters across the country include in Tennessee, the Parkinson’s Foundation works towards making life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by advancing research toward a cure and improving care through providing resources and services for those with PD, caregivers, and healthcare providers. Those services include support groups, health and wellness classes and other education resources

Our Chapters educate the community about PD and raise awareness and funds through activities, such as Moving Day walks, Revolution cycle events, and educational programs to help ensure that people with Parkinson's, their families, and caregivers live their best life possible. The Foundation offers free educational materials for our local networks to distribute to people in their communities and provides a toll-free Helpline, 1-800-4PD-INFO (473-4636), to assist with information and referrals.

Currently, there are over 26,000 people living with PD being served by the local Chapter of the Parkinson’s Foundation, and over $474K has been invested in research, care, and education in this Chapter. To learn more about the impact of this group in our state as well as how to get involved, visit this website: https://www.parkinson.org/tnky/about-us#about-us

More information will be shared in early 2024 about this partnership and ways that TNOTA members can get involved with this organization. The Philanthropy Committee is also seeking volunteers interested in helping to coordinate our service efforts. Please email [email protected] if you're interested.

Volunteer Opportunities

TNOTA is excited to partner with the Parkinson’s Foundation as the 2024 Philanthropy! Our goals are to support the Parkinson’s Foundation through volunteering, sharing information about their programming and events, and creating opportunity for dissemination of their information and resources. Below are upcoming opportunities:

The Parkinson’s Foundation would love to present their PD 101 presentation to groups. If you would like to have them share with your university class, student organization, CoP, district meeting, or any other gathering, email [email protected].

Parkinson's Foundation Fall Moving Day Events and Expos
Moving Day is an inspiring and empowering annual fundraising walk event that has united more than 150,000 participants around the country living with PD, their care partners, and loved ones to fight Parkinson's. Moving Day is more than just a community event. It is a celebration of movement – proven to help manage Parkinson's symptoms. Moving Day is among the largest Parkinson's events in the country and provides excellent brand exposure to thousands of people in the Parkinson's community. The TNKY Chapter is hosting Moving Day events in 2024 in communities throughout Tennessee. We are expecting high engagement levels with our constituents living with PD, their friends and families and their healthcare providers.

These events provide a great opportunity for students to earn volunteer credit hours, meet patients, pharmaceutical reps, and medical professionals in the PD community. They can also start their own walk team and join the fun!
