About This Course: What is Pelvic Health Therapy? As a therapist, how can you integrate the pelvic floor into your treatments? The pelvic floor can contribute and even cause several common conditions like urinary incontinence, constipation, pain with intercourse, low back pain, pelvic pain, and numerous pregnancy/post-partum related issues. Being able to recognize pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and integrate that knowledge into your treatments can be a game changer for your patients. This is an introductory course into pelvic health therapy and how to incorporate the pelvic floor into treatments for your patients in various settings.

Course Objectives:

  1. Describe pelvic health therapy and its importance in terms of clinical practice, research, and community service.

  2. Describe the anatomy of the female/male pelvis, including the pelvic floor muscles.

  3. Explain the major functions and dysfunctions of the pelvic floor muscles and how the dysfunctions can lead to functional limitations.

  4. List conditions that can be caused by or worsened by pelvic floor dysfunction and that can be addressed with pelvic health therapy.

  5. Understand the scope of pelvic health therapy in various settings including outpatient, acute care, SNF, and inpatient rehabilitation.
