This course includes a vendor demonstration. Attendees will learn how to advocate for their clients' needs related to seating, positioning, and mobility. Course Schedule: 9:00-9:10: Intro and logistics9:10-9:30: Seating, positioning, and mobility process for every clinician 9:30-11:00: Seating and positioning assessment and intervention (including mat assessment and 24-hour positioning) 11:00-12:00: Mobility assessment and intervention 12:00-1:00: Lunch (on your own) 1:00-2:00: Mini exhibit hall (Inman 231) 2:00-3:00: Advocating for your client’s needs
Course Objectives:
CEU Information: 5 hours Cost: $150 for nonmembers, $125 for members, $60 for students About the Presenters: Estelle Strydom OTR/L received her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa in 1986. She started her career in the USA in 1994 and worked for different companies in the capacity of occupational therapist, rehab manager, and clinical specialist. Estelle has provided OT services within hospitals, SNF’s, home health, and in private practice. Throughout her career, she showed special interest in seating and positioning and home modifications and had the opportunity to educate clinicians working in SNF’s on a national level. She also presented on several occasions on a variety of topics at AOTA and universities in New England and participated in 2 published articles related to seating and positioning. She relocated from New England to East Tennessee in July 2014 and joined the State of TN DIDD Seating and Positioning Team in July 2017.
Danielle Osborne, MS, OTR/L received her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Milligan University in Johnson City, Tennessee in 2011. She has been an OT for 11 years and worked in a variety of settings- inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, and outpatient geriatrics. In 2016, she joined the State of TN DIDD Seating and Positioning Clinic in Greeneville, Tennessee. She is honored to serve her fellow Tennesseans with physical and intellectual disabilities as part of DIDD (Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities). Missy Bryan, OTD, OTR/L, BCP, ATP, CPST, is an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at Belmont University and Occupational Therapist at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. She has worked in pediatrics for 24 years in outpatient and home health settings. She has 11 years of experience in seating and mobility and transportation of children with special health care needs. Her research interests include the impact of transportation on participation of children and families, impact of elopement and interventions to prevent elopement, and impact of adaptive sports on social participation of children and families.
