About This Course: TNOTA's OT Compliance Day is an opportunity for OTs and OTAs to take continuing education courses required for their licensure. OTs and OTAs are required to have 2 hours of Ethics & Jurisprudence coursework each licensure cycle (every 2 years). OTs are required to have 2 hours of suicide prevention training every 2 licensure cycles (every 4 years). Due to the nature of suicide prevention, the event will not be live streamed or recorded.Attendees can register for E & J, suicide prevention, or both. This event is open to any OT practitioner (TNOTA members and non-members).

Schedule:

  • 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Ethics and Jurisprudence
  • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM:  Suicide Prevention Training

Course Objectives:

After this occupational therapy continuing education course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic principal of ethicsUnderstand the principles of the AOTA Code of Ethics and the NBCOT Code of Conduct
  2. Understand the ethical decision making process recognize appropriate ethical behavior
  3. Identify causes and warning signs of suicide.
  4. Ask a person if they are having thoughts of suicide.
  5. Describe strategies to persuade a person to stay safe.
  6. Explain how to refer a person to resources.

Presenters: Megan Gaylord, LPC-MHSP and Nina Woods, MBA, OTR/L

Megan Gaylord, LPC-MHSP is the suicide prevention trainer for a child-serving non-profit agency. She also maintains a supervision practice, Back Porch Counseling, Consulting, and Publishing. She has served previously as adjunct faculty at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Nina Woods, MBA, OTR/L works for Transitional Care Center in Jackson, TN.

Suicide Prevention Training: 2.0 CEU hours, Free for members, $40 for non-members
Ethics & Jurisprudence: 2.0 CEU hours, Free for members, $40 for non-members
