Student Scholarship Winners

The Tennessee Occupational Therapy Foundation is pleased to recognize three students for excellence in and out the classroom:

Scholarship of Excellence:
Morgan Songergeld, Belmont University

TNOTF's Scholarship of Excellence, is presented to Morgan Songergeld of Belmont University.  She has maintained the gold standard GPA of 4.0 all the while demonstrating a level of commitment and maturity beyond her years. She dedicates herself to service as noted by her volunteer efforts with Sprocket Therapy, GiGi's Playhouse, and Room at the Inn.  Additionally, she has the distinct honor of being the head coach for a Division I National championship dance team.  Her years of service to her team have taught her to strategize and be resourceful in ways that will serve her future clients well.

Scholarships of Distinction:
Tonya Mutter, Jackson State Community College

Presented with the Scholarship of Distinction is Tonya Mutter of Jackson State Community College.  Ms. Mutter is pursuing her degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant while beautifully balancing work, family, and her education.  She has maintained a GPA of 3.891 and serves as her school's TNOTA representative.

Rebecca Denton, Belmont University

Our second Scholarship of Distinction is awarded to Rebecca Denton of Belmont University.  She excels in the classroom as evidenced by her GPA of 3.97, though even more impressive is her heart for service.  Ms. Denton is noted to volunteer her time at Leah Rose Residence for Senior Citizens and Dismas House for previously incarcerated adults and she also serves on the TNOTA Student Committee.

Congratulations to all of our winners!  May you continue to be excellent students and great future leaders in the field of Occupational Therapy.

Excellent Educator Award Winners

Dr. Cindy Poole, University of Tennessee Chattanooga

The Tennessee Occupational Therapy Foundation (TNOTF) is pleased to recognize Dr. Cindy Poole of  the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as an excellent educator in the field of Occupational Therapy.  To be selected for this award, the recipient must be nominated by a student and show outstanding commitment to the personal and educational development of his/her student.  The message of Faciemus is alive and well in Dr. Poole as she embodies the character that is needed to help her students persevere in these unprecedented times.  Her commitment to excellence is evidenced "in the amount of thought, time, passion, and research she invests into preparing her classes" as well as the genuine concern and respect that she has for her students. The student that nominated Dr. Poole noted that extra time was always allotted for mentoring sessions to ensure quality discussion and that she was quick to check in and follow up with her when unexpected life events happened.  Educators like Dr. Poole make an impact on their students beyond the classroom and should be celebrated.

Dr. Stephanie Lancaster, University of Tennessee Health Science Center

It is the distinct pleasure of the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Foundation to recognize Dr. Stephanie Lancaster for excellence in education.  As her nomination demonstrates, there are many ways that educators can affect the lives of their students outside the classroom.  Dr. Lancaster is noted to be sensitive to the anxieties her students face as they embark on their journey to becoming occupational therapists while simultaneously encouraging personal and educational growth. Her zest for teaching the next generation intersects with her empathy and kindness to truly embody the heart of Occupational Therapy and excellence in education. Character and commitment such as hers deserves to be celebrated.
