About the Presentation: This suicide prevention training will equip occupational therapy practitioners to be able to recognize signs of suicidality, talk about suicidal ideation, and provide resources as needed. Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, the course is limited to 35 participants.

Course Objectives:

1. Identify warning signs of suicide
2. Ask a person if they are having thoughts of suicide
3. Describe strategies to support a person's safety
4. Explain how to refer a person to resources.

Kimberly Jessee, OTR/L joined East Tennessee State University in July 2024 and currently serves as an Instructor of Occupational Therapy. Since 2018, she has specialized in geriatric care, focusing on low vision, veterans, mental health, end-of-life care, functional aging, and home modifications. In addition to her work in geriatrics, Dr. Jessee has considerable experience across multiple practice settings, including trauma, adult and pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, outpatient orthopedics, and neurorehabilitation. Since 2020, she has served as the Northeast District Chair for the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association.
