Speaker: Dr. Stephanie Lancaster, EdD, OTR/L, ATP, CDP

About the Presentation: This course provides insight into the many ways culture impacts occupational performance and how culture, as a dynamic process, is essential to the practice of OT. A historical accounting of the shift in terminology, practices, and thinking as related to cultural humility and cultural responsiveness will be shared during the session. We will discuss how culturally responsive care is unique in its delivery and how it aligns with the philosophy and values of the occupational therapy profession. Participants will be encouraged to identify action steps that will further their own cultural humility and cultural responsiveness as OT students and practitioners.

Course Objectives:

  1. Explain why there has been a shift over time in preferred terminology associated with cultural humility and cultural responsiveness.
  2. Discuss why cultural humility is an important part of occupational therapy (OT) practice.
  3. Identify at least one action step they plan to take to elevate their own cultural responsiveness as a future OT practitioner.

Free for members, $20 for non-members, 1 CEU hour
